70+ maternity gowns · Styling guidance from Rue · Fully guided posing

Preparing for maternity photos does not need to be complicated.

You do not need to practise poses, buy a special gown or arrive knowing exactly what to do.

At Gaurab Photography, maternity sessions are fully guided at our private Park Ridge studio. Rue helps with styling and gown selection, while Gaurab guides you throughout the photography and posing.

Your job is simply to arrive comfortable, prepared and ready to enjoy the experience.

The most important things to prepare

+

Choose the right timing

For most pregnancies, 28 to 34 weeks is an ideal maternity photography window.

+

Browse your gown options

You can choose from more than 70 maternity gowns and styling pieces at the studio.

+

Keep beauty preparation simple

Avoid unfamiliar treatments immediately before your session and stick with what works for you.

+

Do not practise posing

You are guided throughout the session, including hand placement, posture, angles and where to look.

A simple maternity photoshoot preparation plan

  1. 01

    A few days before

Confirm your session time, check your travel time to Park Ridge, shortlist gown styles, prepare family clothing and gather any sentimental items.

  2. 02

    The night before

Pack underwear options, prepare comfortable arrival clothing, remove tight wristbands where possible, pack water and get as much rest as you comfortably can.

  3. 03

    On the day

Eat normally, stay hydrated, follow your usual skincare routine, prepare your hair and makeup and wear loose, comfortable clothing to the studio.

What should you wear when you arrive?

Wear something comfortable and easy to change out of. Loose clothing is often the best choice.

Very tight clothing can leave temporary marks around your waist, shoulders, bra straps, ankles and legs. If you are planning portraits where more skin is visible, looser arrival clothing can help reduce those marks.

You do not need to arrive dressed for the first photograph. The session can begin after you have changed into your selected gown or styling.

Hair, makeup and skin preparation

You do not need to completely change your usual look for maternity photographs.

Keep skincare familiar, avoid new facials or aggressive treatments immediately before the session, and choose hair and makeup that still feels like you.

Hydrated skin photographs beautifully, but avoid heavy oily products immediately before changing into studio gowns.

What should you bring?

You do not need to arrive with a suitcase full of things. Most styling can already be handled through the studio wardrobe.

Useful items include seamless underwear, a strapless bra if you have one, water, a simple snack, personal jewellery, sentimental items, your own outfit if you want it photographed, and clothing for your partner or children.

If you have saved a few inspiration images, bring those too. They can help communicate the overall style you are drawn to.

Your maternity photoshoot checklist

A few days before

Confirm your booking, check travel time, browse gown options, prepare partner or child clothing and collect meaningful items.

The night before

Pack underwear options, water and a snack. Prepare comfortable clothing and avoid unfamiliar skincare or beauty treatments.

On the day

Eat normally, stay hydrated, prepare hair and makeup, wear loose clothing and give yourself enough travel time to avoid rushing.

You do not need to know how to pose.

Most maternity clients are not professional models, and feeling awkward at first is completely normal.

Gaurab guides you through small adjustments to your hands, hips, shoulders, chin, feet and weight distribution.

You will know where to stand, where to look and what to do with your hands, so there is no need to practise poses at home.
